Music psychotherapy is the use of music within a client and therapist relationship to promote the client’s emotional, psychological, physical and spiritual growth and healing.
This method combines instrumental and vocal improvisation, singing, songwriting, listening to recorded music and talk therapy. Music and psychotherapy integrated provide a creative and musical space for healing and awareness. After all, the voice is our primary instrument!
As a psychotherapist, counsellor and music teacher, I have seen music heal in many ways. Having worked privately and in the education system with autism spectrum, developmental, learning, processing, mood and personality disorders, I now focus on using music psychotherapy in my practice as a form of creative expression combined with talk therapy.
how i work:
Music psychotherapy can be particularly useful for those who are creatively-oriented or find verbal expression challenging. I work with adults and teens to bring healing and awareness to grief, anxiety, depression, trauma and other challenges in a way that is creative and can also be non-verbal.
Research has found music to be therapeutic and beneficial in treating depression, anxiety, grief, rehabilitating speech, brain injury and neurological disorders, as well as increasing balance, motor-neural functioning and processing trauma.

All sessions are 45 or 60 minutes depending upon your circumstances. An initial intake session of 45 minutes is scheduled prior to therapy in order to discuss your circumstances, requirements and therapeutic goals before proceeding.
